Ugul Malu Kawal IPA, Torres Strait

Preserving cultural connection.

This project focused on documenting a trip to the Ugul Malu Kawal Indigenous Protected Area in Zenadth Kes (Torres Strait), a collaboration between Traditional Owners (TOs), the Torres Strait Regional Authority (TSRA), and Rangers. The journey provided a unique opportunity for the TOs to reconnect with a place of deep spiritual significance, while the Rangers conducted important monitoring activities. My role was to capture Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEK) and footage for several key purposes: creating a cultural visitation/protocols video, highlighting the significance of the island, and showcasing the work carried out by the Rangers.
